Clinical Protocols
These protocols serve only as guidelines for the care of breastfeeding mothers and infants and do not delineate an exclusive course of treatment or serve as standards of medical care. Variations in treatment may be appropriate according to the needs of an individual patient.
Translated protocols that appear here [on the ABM website] have undergone a rigorous two-way translation to provide complete accuracy. Please be aware that translations that appear elsewhere, such as on other websites, are not 'official' ABM translations and ABM cannot assure their accuracy.
ABM Clinical Protocols are now readily available through the National Guideline Clearinghouse website. Visit www.guideline.gov
Note: Most protocols below are available as pdf files, viewable with Adobe Reader.
If you would like to make a request to reprint ABM's protocols, please e-mail us
specific information about the protocol(s) you intend to reproduce or reprint, numbers
of copies and the venue in which it will be used. ABM only allows for protocols
to be reprinted or reproduced for educational purposes. After you email us your
request with the above information, the ABM Protocol Committee will review it and
either approve or decline your request. You will be notified by e-mail either way.
ABM is a non-profit organization which complies with the WHO Code for the marketing
of breast milk substitutes. The production of ABM protocols requires significant
time and expertise and is a costly process. If your request is granted, we suggest
a contribution to our organization to help ensure that ABM is able to continue this
work. Recommended contributions for not-for-profit and for-profit organizations
may be found in the table. Contributions can be mailed to the address below or submitted
online though our donations page
Please feel free to contact us if you have any other questions. Thank you for your
interest in the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine.
