Family Medicine Coffee Chat

Integrating Breastfeeding Medicine in Practice

Join the Family Medicine Special Interest Group for an informal, virtual coffee chat designed for clinicians seeking practical ways to incorporate breastfeeding and lactation support into everyday outpatient care. This relaxed, peer-led conversation creates space for family physicians, residents, NPs, PAs, and other primary care providers to share real-world experiences, exchange strategies, and learn from one another.

Participants will explore topics such as:

  • Defining the Scope of Breastfeeding Medicine in Primary Care
How lactation care fits within the full spectrum of family medicine, including preventive visits, acute care encounters, and longitudinal management.
  • Workflow, Coding, and Billing Considerations
Practical approaches for scheduling, documentation, and reimbursement to make breastfeeding support sustainable within busy outpatient practices.
  • Common Clinical Challenges & Everyday Solutions
Discussion of frequent scenarios—such as latch concerns, nipple pain, infant weight gain, and medication questions—and how primary care teams can confidently address them.

This session is open to all ABM members interested in strengthening the integration of breastfeeding medicine in family practice settings.

Date: March 8, 2026, 8–9 pm CST (UTC-6)

Audience: ABM Current Members Only
