ABM International Travel Scholarship

Expanding Global Access to the ABM Annual International Meeting

Eligibility CriteriaApply

The Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine (ABM) is committed to fostering global collaboration, knowledge exchange, and professional development in breastfeeding & lactation medicine.

To support these goals, ABM offers (4) four International Travel Scholarships of $1,000 USD each to help reduce financial barriers for international members attending the ABM Annual International Meeting. These scholarships are intended to support practicing professionals whose participation will contribute to advancing breastfeeding & lactation medicine in their communities, institutions, countries, and regions.

Through this program, ABM seeks to strengthen international representation at the Annual International Meeting and to support the dissemination of knowledge and best practices worldwide.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

  • Be a current ABM member in good standing.
  • Reside outside the country in which the Annual International Meeting is being held.
  • Demonstrate financial need.
  • Be actively engaged in breastfeeding & lactation medicine through clinical practice, education, research, public health, policy, advocacy, or related professional activities.
  • Commit to attending the meeting in person and participating in the full conference experience.

Please note: Student and trainee memberships are not eligible for this scholarship. As part of ABM's commitment to supporting learners, student and trainee members receive substantially reduced registration rates for the Annual International Meeting. The International Travel Scholarship program is designed to support eligible international professional members seeking financial assistance to attend the conference.

Priority Consideration

While all eligible applications are welcome, additional consideration may be given to:

  • Applicants from low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).
  • First-time ABM Annual International Meeting attendees.
  • Individuals presenting abstracts or participating in the scientific program.
  • Applicants with limited prior access to international professional development opportunities.

Scholarship Application Requirements

Applicants will be asked to provide:

  • Professional and contact information.
  • Details regarding their work in breastfeeding & lactation medicine.
  • A statement describing why attending the meeting is important and how participation will impact their work and community.
  • Information regarding financial need.
  • A description of how they plan to share knowledge gained from the meeting within their institution, community, country, or region.
  • A current CV or résumé.
  • A letter of support from a supervisor, an institution, a colleague, a mentor, or an ABM committee leader.
  • Documentation of abstract submission or meeting participation, if applicable.

Selection Process

Applications will be reviewed using a structured evaluation process designed to support fairness, transparency, and geographic representation. Applications will be evaluated based on:

  • Potential impact of meeting participation.
  • Demonstrated financial need.
  • Alignment with ABM's mission and goals.
  • Engagement with ABM activities.
  • Geographic diversity and representation.
  • Abstract presentations or other active participation in the meeting program.

Because scholarship funding is limited, submission of an application does not guarantee an award.

  • Participate in designated international networking or engagement opportunities, if applicable.
  • Submit a brief post-meeting impact statement describing how the scholarship supported their professional development and how the knowledge gained will be shared with others.

Support Future Scholarship Opportunities

The ABM International Travel Scholarship Program is made possible, in part, through the generosity of donors who contribute to the International Meeting Participant Travel Support Fund.

These contributions help remove financial barriers, expand international participation, and ensure that colleagues from around the world have opportunities to engage with the ABM community. As demand for scholarship assistance continues to grow, ABM encourages members and supporters who are able to do so to consider contributing to the fund.

Together, we can help build a more connected, inclusive, and globally representative breastfeeding and lactation medicine community.
